Executive Development

The Executive Development program at CedarCreek VRC is based on the "Men in a Vise" coaching program developed by Carolyn Steigmeier, Ph.D.

One answer to improving the quality of a successful man’s life may be to partner with a professional coach committed to his concerns.

Regardless of where you look—academic research, Human Resource professionals, Harvard Business Review or magazines such as Time and Fortune—coaching is now recognized as an extraordinarily effective way to help individuals and organizations identify and meet goals.

  What is coaching?

“Coaching is an action-oriented partnership that, unlike psychotherapy, which delves into patterns of the past, concentrates on where you are today and how you can reach your goals.”  Coaching provided by an employer is called executive, business, corporate or professional coaching. The coaching that an individual chooses to undertake on his own is often referred to as life, career or personal coaching.

  Who uses coaching?

The world’s most successful corporations provide coaching to their top executives; progressive leadership development programs include coaching; and many successful people now hire their own coach.

“Kodak is far from alone. Coaching management is a hot trend at a growing number of Fortune 500 companies, from IBM and Dow Chemical to Marriott International and Glaxo Wellcome.”

How does one choose a coach?

Coaches range from those with no specific training to those with PhDs and years of experience. They may have expertise in specific fields such as change, work/life balance, stress or communication, or be certified by one of the new coaching associations. Choose a coach with credentials that seem appropriate for the work you plan to do. Most important, choose a coach you trust who listens carefully and gives you unvarnished feedback.
