Motivation in Work Organizations
by Edward E. Lawler III (1994), Jossey-Bass, San Francisco
paperback, 292 pages

|
There are hundreds, perhaps thousands of trade books
that discussion motivation and values in the workplace, at least at the generic level.
And that is our biggest complaint. Many of these never really define those aspects
they are promoting. Lawler's book spends a lot of time defining and discussing human
needs. We would call them values. Nevertheless, the examination of how needs
interrelate into the workplace, the complexity of those interactions, and how an
understanding benefits both worker and employer makes this an important contribution. |
