Shadows of the Mind
A Search for the Missing Science of Consciousness
by Roger Penrose (1994), Oxford University Press, Oxford, UK
paperback, 457 pages (also available in hardcover)

|
Roger Penrose, a mathematics professor at Oxford, has a
most unique way of writing. In this text, he uses mathematics and physics to discuss
the topic of consciousness, but in terms that are understandable for non-math, non-physics
types. Our interest in Penrose's book is that it incorporates our interests in
complexity and consciousness which (we believe) ties in with how values evolve as emergent
properties of complexity. Regardless, it is a fascinating text for those interested
in how consciousness might be better understood. |
